iNaturalist- Marine Shoreline Summer Observation Project

iNaturalistMarine Shoreline Summer Observation Project

As the pandemic pauses many of our volunteer  monitoring activities, here is one way to help collect data on your own! The iNaturalist project needs your help:

To participate, first create an account on iNaturalist.orgor use the iNatualist app. Then, find our Skagit or Whatcom project on iNaturalist and join. Pick one of your favorite shorelines and see what species you can find. Simply snap some photos and upload them to your account. Every observation counts!

If you are not able to make it out to the beach, you can still participate remotely by reviewing and identifying observations on our project page.

This project is a great way for everyone to get outside and involved in citizen science while continuing to follow all health and safety guidelines. Our focus is to spend the summer collecting observations on shoreline species found throughout Skagit and Whatcom Counties. Find out more in the About section of our projects. We can’t wait to see what everyone finds!

Suggested Skagit Observation Locations: Similk Beach, Washington Park, and Deception Pass State Park.

Suggested Whatcom Observation Locations: Marine Park, Semiahmoo Park, and Little Squalicum Beach Park.

** Please ensure the shoreline location you choose is open and accessible to the public.**
